Gold Coast City Marina has announced its latest acquisition with the purchase of two Ascom branded shipyard equipment machines. A 250 Tonne capacity straddle carrier and a 45 Tonne hydraulic trailer unit have been ordered from the Italian based manufacturers.

Due to increased demand to have works carried out at the GCCM facility from the larger boat segment, particularly in the Superyacht sector, owners Patrick and Trenton Gay have made a decision to invest in expansion and long term sustainability of the site. The owners are committed to supporting the many reputable and skilled trades that are based at the site. This investment with Ascom equates to approx. $1.3 mil (AUD).

The timing of this investment coincides with the recent news from Government, confirming the commencement of a maintenance dredging program throughout the Gold Coast Waterways region.

The Ascom equipment has been selected above other makes, due to its state of the art capabilities. High quality design, advanced hydraulic lifting ability, plus both machines are able to be controlled by remote control.

GCCM General Manager Steve Sammes explains “Now the lift operators will be able to work closely alongside every vessel throughout the entire lift operation, this allows for precision lifting and sling placement, plus an excellent clear view for manoeuvring vessels safely throughout the site.” Sammes further commented about the new remote controlled Ascom hydraulic trailer. “This unique piece of equipment will allow us to maximise the shipyards foot print area, particularly for vessels seeking long term secure hardstand storage” he said.

Roberto Schedoni, the General Manager of Ascom in Italy is delighted with the sale to GCCM. He stated “Ascom is thrilled to have the new equipment ordered by the Gold Coast City Marina. To have our brand name associated with such an iconic Australian marine industry facility really reinforces the high quality and value for money that we are proudly producing here in Italy’.

Ascom SpA is represented in Australasia by Aerlift Australia a division of Gineico Queensland Pty Ltd, which is in the process of establishing its head office and showroom in the GCCM precinct in Coomera.
